Monterey County Juvenile Hall Needs Assessment: A Preliminary Analysis
“Eight years ago, the Monterey County Probation Department (2006) projected the need for 210 new detention beds over the next 20 years. This estimate was based on 2003 to 2005 juvenile arrest totals that have since declined by approximately 35 percent, mirroring a similar statewide trend. The purpose of this preliminary analysis is to examine current crime, confinement, and population trends within a larger historical context to estimate the county’s future juvenile detention needs.”
